Catherine Rawn (University of British Columbia)

    Bio

In her tenure-track teaching stream position, Catherine enjoys the challenge of teaching psychology to large groups of diverse students. She has used a plethora of strategies to engage learners in classes of 100-400+, including Team-Based Learning, poster projects, peer tutors, mini-papers, clickers, demonstrations, and strategically placed song and dance. Her PhD is in Social/Personality Psychology, with an emphasis on quantitative research methods and statistics. Her doctoral work explored self-control, a topic which she recently used as the core of an Applied Social Psychology course focused on life-long learning. Most recently, she tackled textbook writing by updating and adapting an existing quantitative research methods textbook for a Canadian audience. A Millennial herself, she enjoys playing with and harnessing new media, and has, through STLHE 2011, learned the networking value of “tweeting” her way through a conference. In her down time, she enjoys spending time with friends, gardening, running, sitcoms, and wine.
